Pinterest AI Filter: How to See Fewer AI-Generated Pins

Pinterest now lets users choose to see fewer AI Pins in selected categories or GenAI interests through Refine your recommendations. It is not a strict switch that removes every AI-generated image from feeds, boards, search results, or ads.

Use the native control first. Then retrain recommendations with careful hides, saves, and follows.

Use the Pinterest AI-content control

Desktop

1. Sign in to Pinterest.

2. Open the settings control at the lower-left.

3. Select Refine your recommendations.

4. Open AI content.

5. Choose the categories in which you want to see fewer AI Pins.

Android

1. Open the Pinterest app and your profile.

2. Open your profile or settings menu.

3. Select Refine your recommendations.

4. Open GenAI interests.

5. Edit the interests you want to see less often.

Pinterest's current help page says GenAI-interest customisation is available on desktop and Android, with iOS listed as coming soon. Check your own device before assuming the setting is missing — this is a staged rollout, not a fault with your account.

Why AI Pins may still appear

The control reduces recommendations

Pinterest describes the feature as choosing to see fewer AI Pins in certain categories. It does not promise total removal across every surface.

Detection is incomplete

Pinterest's Gen AI labels guide says it uses metadata and classifiers to identify generated or modified content. A file may lack useful metadata, evade a classifier, or receive an incorrect label.

Search and ads are different surfaces

Pinterest says recommendation controls do not change the ads shown on the home feed. Search results may also behave differently from personalized home-feed recommendations.

Your activity still shapes the feed

Pinterest recommends content based on saves, searches, and browsing. Opening many unwanted Pins to inspect them can still create activity signals.

Retrain the feed without losing the topic

When you want human-created watercolor references but keep receiving generated watercolor:

1. Use the more-options menu on an unwanted Pin.

2. Choose the available hide or "not interested" action.

3. Avoid saving or repeatedly opening similar generated Pins.

4. Follow verified artists, museums, publishers, or original sources.

5. Save human-created work to focused boards with source links.

6. Remove recommendation influence from irrelevant boards or activity.

This process does not guarantee a clean feed. It gives the recommendation system more specific positive and negative examples.

Check AI labels carefully

Pinterest may display an AI modified label when supplied metadata, the owner, or Pinterest's systems indicate AI generation or modification. The label appears in Pin close-up for non-promoted image Pins under current guidance.

A label is not proof that every pixel was generated. It can cover modification, an AI-generated person, or a system assessment. Read what AI Modified means before reporting a creator.

If Pinterest labels your own human-created Pin incorrectly, its Help page directs users to support for an appeal. Keep original files, editing history, source photographs, and timestamps.

Browser extensions: useful but limited

Some Chrome extensions claim to hide Pins carrying visible AI labels. A listing such as Pinterest AI Content Filter describes scanning rendered Pins for labels.

We have not audited or endorsed that extension, and we'd treat any third-party filter with caution — a browser extension that reads your feed can usually read a great deal else besides. Before installing any of them, check:

• publisher identity and support contact

• requested permissions

• privacy policy and data collection

• update history

• source-code availability

• recent reviews

• whether it modifies only Pinterest pages

• how quickly you can remove it

An extension that hides a label cannot catch unlabeled AI. Pinterest can also change its page structure and break the filter.

Set the honest expectation

You can reduce AI-heavy recommendations. You cannot rely on one toggle to identify every generated image or preserve every human one. Native settings, specific feedback, trusted sources, and occasional manual verification work better together.
