Pinterest does not currently document a global switch that removes every AI-generated Pin. It lets you choose categories in which you want to see fewer AI Pins. Pinterest describes how it uses AI across recommendations, safety, shopping, and creator experiences on its AI transparency page.
That wording matters: fewer, not none.
There is also a second setting most people are looking for without knowing it exists. "Turning off AI" means two different things on Pinterest: seeing fewer AI-generated Pins in your feed, and stopping Pinterest from using your own Pins to train its image model. They sit in different menus, and neither one changes the other. This guide covers both, starting with the feed.
Open the Pinterest app and tap your profile picture at the bottom-right.

Select the topics in which you want less AI-generated content.
For a business account, Pinterest directs users to the profile, then the top-right menu, Settings, and Refine your recommendations.
Pinterest's current help page says GenAI-interest customization is available on desktop and Android, with iOS coming soon. If the control does not appear in the iPhone app, try the desktop website and recheck the official help page after app updates.
Do not follow a tutorial that tells you to delete the app, reset the account, or install an unknown browser extension just to reveal a menu that has not reached your device.
The AI setting is only one input. Use the other tabs in Refine your recommendations:
Activity or Pins: turn off recommendations based on Pins you viewed.
Boards: stop selected boards from shaping the feed.
Interests: remove topics you no longer want.
Following: unfollow accounts that no longer fit.
Pinterest says recommendation signals are automatically off for archived and secret boards, although you can turn secret-board recommendations back on.
When an unwanted Pin appears, use Pinterest's feedback controls to see less content like it. Save and engage with the human-made work you do want. The feed learns from both sides of that behavior.
Pinterest labels and classifiers are not perfect, and the control promises reduction by category. Unlabeled AI content can remain, and detected content may still appear.
Pinterest documents the setting as a recommendation and feed control. It does not promise a strict "exclude AI" filter for every search query.
Pinterest explicitly says turning recommendations on or off does not affect the ads you see. Advertising preferences are managed separately.
If you publish and receive an "AI modified" label, use Pinterest's label appeal process. Recommendation preferences and creator labels are separate systems.
Feed controls and data-training controls are different systems in different menus. Choosing to see fewer AI Pins does nothing about whether your own uploads feed Pinterest's model. That is the next section.
This is a separate setting in a separate menu, and it is the one many people are actually after. Open Settings, then Privacy and data, and clear the box marked Use your data to train Pinterest Canvas. Nothing inside Refine your recommendations touches it.
Pinterest Canvas is the company's own image-generation model. Pinterest says it was trained on roughly 500 million rows of publicly available Pins, Pin descriptions, and Pin metadata that people saved or uploaded, going back to 2009. Content owners can ask for a whole website to be excluded from future Canvas training, which is a broader request than the account toggle. Pinterest handles it through a form that asks for your legal name and contact details, your business name and country, a claimed website, and three to five sample Pin IDs. That distinction matters if you publish commercially. The account toggle covers what you save from your account; the website form covers the domain.
Be clear-eyed about the limit. Pinterest describes the website form as opting out of future foundation-model training. Neither control claims to remove anything from a model that has already been trained, and Pinterest does not say an existing model is retrained without your material.
So this is a forward-looking control, not a recall. Turning it off today stops the next round; it does not unwind the last one.

Confirm you are on desktop or Android.
Update the Pinterest app.
Check the correct account and account-type path.
Try a desktop browser if mobile lacks the menu.
